Back Pain

A Path Forward

  • Breaking Bad Habits

Many of our patients come to us after exhausting every option. Chronic pain is exhausting, and over time we can believe that nothing works. That was the case with me when I herniated a disc in my back.

The problem isn’t you. Chronic pain often lives deep, sustained by patterns your system creates for self-protection. Your body is designed to keep you functional, not necessarily in good shape.

    That’s where acupuncture is different.
Rather than simply addressing the symptom, acupuncture helps retrain your body’s natural pain response — calming the nervous system, improving circulation, and reducing inflammation so your body can finally heal properly.

  • Root Cause Approach

Your back pain has its own story.
At Miami Acupuncture & Herbal Solutions, every session begins with an evaluation: how your pain is evolving, and assessment of markers of progress.

From there, we design a personalized treatment plan together with the patient, to address the root causes. This may include any combination of:

    - Postural and movement imbalances
    - Old injuries or muscle guarding
    - Stress and nervous system overdrive
    - Chronic inflammation
    - Sleep and digestive patterns that slow recovery

By working at this foundational level, acupuncture helps your body stop the pain cycle and stay out of it longer.
Many patients notice immediate relaxation and better mobility, followed by steadier improvements over several sessions.

  • Scientific and Pragmatic

Scientific challenges for acupuncture as an effective treatment for back pain go as far back as the 1970’s. These studies consistently prove acupuncture’s efficacy in the management of chronic pain.

Far from the enigmatic ideas of ‘qi’ and energy, much has been learned about the biomechanical avenues by which these treatment affect change. From reduction of inflammation via protein binding, to the use of endogenous pain-modulating hormones, acupuncture’s use in the treatment of pain is as pragmatic as it is verifiable.

Multi-Modal Approach

Back pain - especially chronic pain - is often complex in nature. The application of several approaches, targeting various avenues of pain, is the most effective way to reduce discomfort.

At Miami Acupuncture and Herbal Solutions, our physician Blake Estape uses a breadth of skills he learned while earning his degree in Hebei, China. This can include cupping, electro-stimulation, herbal medicine, acupuncture injection therapy, red light therapy, gua sha scrapping treatments, and tui na massage. The most effective modalities are determined during evaluation and employed as part of treatment without extra charge.
